The Art of Disability Justice Now
A preview exhibition installed in Wilson Library featuring the work of Alison Bergblom Johnson, Emma MacLean, and Ocean C. Poet. The evening of July 19th at Mill City Museum, the show will run through November 2nd.

Years of disappointment and human lies.

Energy deprivation.
Human right starvation.
Refusing to hear my words of suffering truth.
I uttered.
In my defense I did not stutter.
In the beginning fear arose.
But after years of hidden torture.
Numbness and anger cleave to my Chi.
My emotions knew nothing of peace.
Not refusing to speak.
I kneel holding my broken wing.
Praying for justice to prevail.

Fellowship Project: The Self-Advocate Artistic Movement
Ocean is a 59-year-old, multi-raced, transgender male, artist, writer, poet, musician, and animator living in St. Paul, Minnesota. Ocean has published seven books, including a graphic novel, self-help, and poetry. Ocean believes art is helpful in self-advocacy because it allows people to express themselves. He believes that your art is your words, your words are your art, and your art is your protest.
Project Summary: The Self-Advocate Artistic Movement will focus on bringing people with disabilities together in the community to learn about self-advocacy and self-expression through art. This project will help elevate a community that is often marginalized or left out and whose history gets erased. They tell stories and show people that the disability community has always existed.
Mr. Ocean C Poet is a 59-year-old Multi-Race Transgender Male, Confessional Graphic Novelist/Graphic Artist/ Poet/ FilmMaker
Ocean is also a Disability Self-Advocate and 2023 SARTAC Fellow.
Ocean has Sensorineural Hearing Loss, and a Traumatic Brain Injury.
Mr. Poet has written seven books which includes a graphic novel, self-help and poetry book.
He is currently composing a new graphic novel, which is entitled "Love Is Love". A LGBTQ+ love story.
On January 1, 2023 Ocean C Poet released his latest poetry book, Lyrics IN Reality ( A Revolutionist Poetical Protest XX).
This year Ocean plans to have book readings throughout the Twin Cities areas.
Mr. Poet has showcased his creative and poetical protest since 2004.
He was the creator and producer of an online poetry showcase, called Another Saturday Night Poet.
